In this 1633 dark
twist on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, young lovers Giovanni
and Annabella aren’t just start-crossed, they’re also brother and sister.
In a corrupt society preoccupied with carnal desire, who can prevent the
inevitable, horrific climax? Bloody, lustful, and rife with ironic
wit, ‘Tis Pity is the ultimate Jacobean revenge-tragedy. To
capture the spirit of a 17th century theatre-going
experience, while remaining relevant
to modern audiences, our production will incorporate: open staging,
universal lighting, contemporary costuming, live sound,
company-performed music between acts, and
concessions for sale in the theater.
